3 Reasons for Vitamin B3

1 Comment | If maintaining heart health or avoiding Alzheimer’s disease and osteoarthritis are of concern to you, consider your intake of vitamin B3. Also known as niacin, B3 plays an important part of many functions in the body:
- It lowers harmful LDL cholesterol while raising good HDL cholesterol, reducing the risk of heart disease.
- It may reduce the incidence of asthma-induced wheezing.
- It may be helpful in treating or preventing atherosclerosis, second heart attacks, Alzheimer's and osteoarthritis.
Fortified breads and cereals, chicken breast, tuna and veal are good dietary sources of niacin. I recommend taking 50 mg of B3 as niacinamide as part of a B-complex that contains a full spectrum of B vitamins, including thiamin, B12 and riboflavin.
