Are You Addicted to the Internet?

 That's a good question. Some research does suggest that internet addiction is real and occurs particularly among adolescents. Unfortunately, if this is a genuine addiction, it is tricky to treat - computers are now part of our daily lives. You can't avoid them as readily as you can alcohol, drugs or gambling. If your time spent online is interfering with other aspects of your life, and if most - if not all - of your leisure time is devoted to computer usage, you certainly could have a problem. Recognizing it is the first step toward overcoming it.

Here's how I set limits on personal technology use.

How much time do you spend online?
While there is a category for "Other" tis a very important category.... older retired people do research at home...others do significant surfing ....young people at school and university are avid uses....even mature aged people studying online....

I admit that my internet use may be problematic at times. I use it a lot at work, as well as at home in the evenings and weekends. I also use the internet on my smart phone on the go. I really just have a handful of sites that I use that I like to frequent often. It is my only real vice. It could be a "gateway drug" into stronger media forms though...
